My mother always taught me that every smile, every occasion of celebration, and every victory has a specific sacrifice behind it. Whatever the reason (smiling at graduating, smiling at the fireworks of Independence Day, smiling at a significant other) for the smile, there is an effort and a sacrifice that directly corresponds to it. So, in the spirit of giving back, I’m launching a new contest. The Help-Portrait project has been started to share the gift of hope with those in need. So, watch the video to learn how to participate and then check out the S2S Contest details below it:
As the video states, take some time out to spend with someone in need – homeless shelters, battered family shelters, nursery homes, and hospitals are good places to start. Share a conversation, a meal, a blanket, some clothes, and some HOPE. Get your subject to smile – a hearty, hope filled smile. Take a picture and submit your photo along with a brief story about your experience and subject to mahroo@s2sphotography.com by 12:00am December 13th, 2009. Participants should make sure to include their name and contact information in the e-mail.
Mahroo and I will go over all the entries and post the winning photo and story on the blog. If the winner is local or within our frequently visited East Coast markets (NYC/NJ, DC, Richmond, Atlanta, Miami) the winner will receive a free portrait session that they can use for themselves or – since it’s all about the spirit of giving – gift to someone else. If the winner is outside of the areas listed above, they will receive a Godiva Gift card.
